We’re now about a week away from Biennial ‘21! If you haven’t registered yet, please do so today by going to Companis.org and clicking on the blue registration link in the pop-up window. The event takes place on Thursday, October 21st, at 6PM. Closer to the date, we’ll email you a link to the online event.
Our first virtual fundraiser is packed with compelling stories and insights, all tied to our motto, “Where Compassion Meets Action.” Expect lively profiles of nonprofit partners, many filmed on site, and thoughtful testimonials from Companis Workers who are helping these nonprofits deepen their mission.
We’re also excited to bring you an in-depth interview with Dr. Ben Danielson, a physician and clinical professor in pediatrics at the University of Washington, former director of the Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic, and chair of the Governor’s Interagency Council on Health Disparities. Dr. Danielson and our guest interviewer, Val Thomas-Matson of Look Listen and Learn TV, will talk about human potential, what it means to cherish our Black children, and our individual responsibility to right injustices.
Here’s a short excerpt from Dr Danielson from that interview:
“I wonder how we explore the question of what it means to live your best life, because I hope and pray that living your best life means that when you see harm happening around you, part of being the best you is stepping up and calling it out. When you experience that you’re a part of systems that are creating harm, that you are the loudest possible voice, and change those systems. I’m not saying that we shouldn’t be helping our fellow human beings, but we should also be making sure that we’re working on systems that pathologize people. That, to me, is part of what it means to cherish Black children.”
In addition to our partner Look Listen and Learn, our program will also features nonprofit partners Pushing Boundaries, Asian Counseling and Referral Service, and ChildStrive. Please consider a donation to these partners, and any our collaborating agencies, who serve our neighbors so brilliantly in so many ways.
To cap off our 30-minute program, we’re offering a live Q&A with Companis Executive Director Gary Davis and Associate Executive Director for Programs, Jennifer Wing. Using the online chat function, you’ll be able to ask questions in real time.
So be sure to sign up today, if you haven’t already, and get ready for a celebration and being together, Companis style!
